GIES, WILLIAM J.: School of Medicine, Columbia University, New York City (Aug. 22, 1939).

It happens that no one has referred to the question whether enamel contains any enzyme that occurs in living tissues. This omission makes it appropriate to present the following relevant quotation, from a paper by the author : ” Conventional tests for tissue enzymes, applied to pulverized [non carious]enamel from freshly extracted [permanent] teeth, have been completely negative.”
